Doyle Vinson ROGERS

Male 1948 - 2023  (75 years)

Doyle Vinson Rogers, age 75, of Tiger, passed away on October 20, 2023, surrounded by his loving, faithful family. He transitioned from his earthly to heavenly realm where he is no doubt entertaining his departed loved ones and the angels with a wit that is making God cringe.

Doyle was born on June 20, 1948, to the late Marvin and Nellie Rogers. For the next 75 years, he would be a tornadic force of nature that thousands could not avoid as they came to love and respect him.

Doyle was a veteran of the US Army where he served valiantly in the Vietnam War. He said that he served because it was the right thing to do. He also stated that his car wouldn’t make it to Canada if he chose to dodge the draft. He earned numerous medals and awards to include the Purple Heart for losing his favorite leg to a landmine.

Doyle is survived by his angelic, devoted wife of 51 years, Gloria Elizabeth Rogers “Bo”; loyal sons Rev. Michael Rogers (Susan) and Dustin Rogers (Amanda); Grandchildren Kennedy Watts (Jess), Brayden Rogers, Gracyn Nichols (Tate), and John “Henry” Rogers. Great-Grandchildren Norra Watts, Wyllow Watts, Ford Nichols and Reagan Nichols. Sister Roslyn Dickerson (Dale) and numerous nephews and nieces.

Doyle is preceded in death by his father Marvin and mother Nellie Rogers, brothers Rondal, Carmel and Harold Rogers, sister Barbara Ritchie, and nephew Lance Dickerson.

“Mr. Doyle” retired from South Rabun Elementary where he welcomed thousands of children to school every morning with a caring smile. He was adored by “his” teachers and was known to have the cleanest school in the system. He also served as an honorary principal from 1983-1988 where he hashed out disciplinary measures to his two, hyperactive boys.

Doyle attended Flat Creek Baptist Church. He loved to drive the county roads with his prized dogs in search of vagrant squirrels that needed to be eradicated. His favorite three minutes of television was watching the Hee Haw Quartet on Saturday nights. He doted on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with a patient love and excused their often loud, unruly behavior, a fact that did not escape his two, confused boys. He was a hard worker who never complained about the daily, physical pain that came with being an amputee. He had an uncommon toughness and grit that he believed to be the vanguard of a man.

Doyle courageously fought dementia and cancer until his death. He never let these horrible diseases affect his humor and loving manner. His legacy will be lived through his family, who will miss him terribly and think about him often.

The family would like to thank the nurses of Amedisys Hospice for their professional and caring servitude during the family’s time of need. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at 1433 Low Gap Road Lakemont, GA 30552.

The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home on Sunday October 22, 2023 from 4:00pm until 6:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday October 23, 2023 at the Beck Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
