  • Notes
    • Paul Buffle, wife Cathrine, of Rowan County, in his will dated 15 Dec 1764, mentions Christian Eller as one of his sons-in-law (George Michael Eller and Descendants of his in America," J.W. Hook). Research by J.G. Eller of the Eller Family Association, has identified a Johannes Paul Buffel who came to Pennsylvania from Germany in 1738. This Paul Buffel was among the earliest Germans to migrate from Pennsylvania to North Carolina about 1750. His wife is identified as Cathrine Han (or Haan). J.G. Eller identifies their son as Adam Buffel, father of Mary Biffle (who marries Jacob Eller Junior). Eller and I believe Adam's sister, Elizabeth, is most likely Christian Eller's wife. J.G. Eller refers to her as "...Christian's second wife." The family name is shown is some places as Buffle (especially in generations before Elizabeth and Adam), Biffle and Beefle. It seems to continue to prove just how difficult the clerks in Rowan County, NC, found German names.
There would appear to be an earlier wife, whose name we don't know, who was the mother of the two older sons. Hook suggests this marriage happened before Christian came to North Carolina and may have happened even before Christian came to America.
