RED FAULKNER RITES TO BE HELD TOMORROW

Last rites for Marion E. "Red" Faulkner will be held at 10 a.m. this Friday, crypt-side at the Westside Cemetery Mausoleum. Mr. Faulkner, a prominent Taft businessman and civic leader, died Tuesday afternoon at his home. He was 71.

Marion Edward Faulkner was born in Deming, New Mexico, in 1905, to James Jonathan Faulkner, a New Mexico rancher, and Anna May DeLong. He had resided in this community for the past 56 years. Owner of The Faulkner Agency, he was in the insurance and real estate business and was the founder and major stockholder of Canada Dry Bottling Company of Bakersfield. He later bought out the stockholders and became the sole owner, then sold the bottling company in 1970.

Although Mr. Faulkner had been semi-retired in recent years, he still visited his office daily.

He served for many years on the Kern County Parks and Recreation Commission, was instrumental in getting Gardner Field located in Taft during WWII and was one of those responsible for getting Buena Vista Golf Course built.

Mr. Faulkner was a member of the Methodist Church, a past president of the Taft Chamber of Commerce, a past patron of Faith Chapter Eastern Star, a life member of the Elks Lodge, past president of the Community Chest, worked in the Red Cross, was a member of Kiwanis, a York Rite Mason, belonged to Shrine and was a member of Taft-Midway Lodge 426, F&AM.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; a son, a daughter, and seven grandchildren.

The Rev. Vic Holt of the First United Methodist Church and officers of Taft- Midway Lodge will conduct the services.
