Born in 1919 in Slifer, Iowa, to Earl Washington Marquis and Bertha Marquis, Cornelia moved, as a child, with her family to Chicago, Ill., where she attended grade school, middle school, graduating from John Marshall High School and then Beauty School.

After marrying, she and her husband moved to Roanoke, Va. A celebration of Cornelia's life will be held at Nampa Church of the Brethren on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 11 a.m. A second celebration will be held at a later date in Roanoke, Va. She will be interred in Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, Va. beside her husband.
